Event Description:

Fire Fly Festival on High Bridge

(Prince Edward, Va.) – Come witness the spectacular sight of fireflies by the thousands in the tree tops below High Bridge on Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8. Meet with a ranger on the river overlook of High Bridge at 9 p.m. for an explanation of these spellbinding, luminous insects. This program is earlier in the month than in previous years in order to take advantage of a new moon. This timing will provide excellent dark contrast with the star-field above and the living "stars" around and below you.

A knowledgeable insect specialist will be available with a vast collection of local insects on display. We will have light traps set to attract local insects that our guests can examine. Experience has shown that the fireflies become the most active just past 10 p.m. We will conclude these programs by 11 p.m.

A $10 parking fee applies at our parking areas for this special evening program. Activities, crafts and food vendors will be available at this event. For more information, call 434-315-0457 or email highbridgetrail@dcr.virginia.gov.
